Different medications address different factors contributing to dry eye and eyelid disease. Depending on your examination findings, your treatment plan may include prescription drops or other prescription therapy, sometimes combined with in-office procedures and care at home.
Prescription anti-inflammatory therapy may be part of care when ocular surface inflammation is contributing to dry eye.
When testing shows inadequate tear production, medication may be considered to support the eye’s tear producing system. The choice depends on the cause and the rest of your examination findings.
Some prescription treatments are designed to reduce tear evaporation. Suitability depends on tear film and meibomian gland findings.
Corneal nerve dysfunction can affect sensation and surface healing. Treatment depends on the diagnosis. Oxervate is approved for neurotrophic keratitis; it is not a general treatment for every cause of dry eye or nerve related eye pain.
